In preparation for my upcoming trip to China, I got my hands on a couple of Chinese history books. Not wanting any details from getting lost in translation, I chose to read the Chinese version.
I was a bad history student: Back in the days, history was probably my least favorite subject. I didn’t see the point of memorizing dates, names, and places that seem to have nothing to do with my daily life. But as life progresses, I start to realize the importance of understanding my roots. Travel helps, and so is studying history.
Although these books only scratch the surface of the 4000 years of Chinese history, it definitely helps recall my fragmented memories of the various dynasties, historical figures, and key events.
